finnish techno icon mono junk aka kim rapatti joins forces with berlin based freestyle man aka klas sasse lindblad, known for his productions on classic labels like sähkö and moodmusic. pata ep starts with the hard hitting techno title ‘not a love story’, haunting vocals, simple synthline, slicing percussion and deep bassdrum, all u need to make an effect, this must be heard in a big sound system. following with ‘need your lovin’ the ep takes a more electro approach, mesmerising love story with jupiter-8 bassline and 808 beats accompanied with vocals on this track too by mr rapatti. the ep ends with ‘stella polaris’, a production which started as a jam in 2007 in berlin at sasse’s blackhead studios and was finished 10 years later in 2017 in the same location. reminiscing of early 90s electronica time when everything was pure and gold and when these fellows also were starting their careers. ‘stella polaris’ leaves no one cold with emotional themes of analog synthesis and depth of the bass.

making his long awaited return to salt mines, hymns produces a debut 12” flecked with restrained breakbeats, off-kilter rhythms and glistening pads. opener ‘water acid’ is an eerie amalgamation of aquatic electro and tense emotion, built for a fractured dancefloor deep in the arctic ring. a2 ‘searching for the real’ provides a brief moment of introspection, before b-side leader ‘heinz harald frentzen’ crashes down and amplifies the intensity with sharp breaks and rapid, stark percussion. closing the release, title track ‘waves of nothing’ showcases hymns at his best, utilising lonely synths and equally mechanical and organic percussion to create a sentimental, vulnerable climax.

audiosapr is one of the most consistent albums you’re likely to come across in russia’s gost zvuk entire back catalogue. surprisingly, the full-length by saint petersburg’s scene veteran kuzma palkin is a compilation of random jams and studio recordings he made in the period of 2014-2015, carefully pieced together by label’s masterminds. sapr stands for the system of automatic projection (a russian term for computer-aided design, cad) which defines the album’s experimental yet complex and interlocking heart. based around a central theme of immediacy and spontaneity, audiosapr builds upon the foundations of early, pre-detroit era of electro and techno, and then progresses the wispy entrails of analogue gear in a contemporary dancefloor direction. it’s clearly music that can be attributed as hybrid, however it’s not you re going to think about while listening to “audiosapr”, palkin’s definitely most inspiring work to date.

seasoned memory athletes will no doubt recall the turbo’s past affiliation with the former soviet union (proxy, tiga tigayevich khristorozhdestvensky), and recent geopolitical developments have prompted the label to once again hedge its bets. our a&r team spent countless hours sifting through layer after layer of russian underground music, a shocking amount of which turned out to be fake soundcloud accounts from producers based in florida. in fact, our best intelligence suggests that dimitri veimar may be the only person making music in russia today. for the 30 minutes a day he is not trading in politically moderate twitter-bot futures, veimar produces dark, raw-dog electro. he has already released music with omnidisc and renate, so it makes little sense to us why we have to communicate with him via a mole in the canadian embassy in moscow, which is further complicated by the fact that the mole is also an aspiring dj/producer whom we have to keep happy at all costs. you have no idea how much has been sacrificed in order to shield you from the realpolitik of international dance music.

more demented, brain-damaging turkish electro-saz & synth drums galore by the mighty derdiyoklar duo, originally released in 1984! anadolu pop doesn t get weirder than this! these two turkish guys armed with electro-saz, guitar, drums and synthetizers were hitting the turkish market in germany where they lived, playing their sets of traditional flavoured electro-folk in weddings and circumcision feasts for turkish emigrants in germany. that crazy is the story, that crazy is their sound!!!
